DAY
1- Head out from Campo Grande and drive 200 km
on paved roads, then follow a dirt road for another 35 km,
arrive to our first campsite (Fazenda Igrejinha) on the
north Necholandia region. After lunch, hiking trip with
an orientation about local flora and fauna, observe the
Pantanal from lookout points, visit ecological sites and
Rappel (the best place for a spectacular view of the Pantanal).
Dinner, nocturnal spotlighting safari. Overnight at campsite.
DAY 2- Early morning departure, venturing
by 4x4 vehicle deep into remoter areas of the Pantanal for
wildlife tracking (jaguars, maned wolf, anteaters, armadillos,
tapirs, and others). After setting up our bush camp for
the night, do more bird watching, photographic hikes. After
dinner, game drive with
spotlights
to look for animals. Bush camp overnight.
Day 3- Set out on foot early in the morning
to begin exploration of this incredible region teeming with
wildlife. After lunch, horseback riding to explore the grasslands
in search of wildlife looking for caimans, river otters,
a multitude of bird species, returning after the dark, looking
for nocturnal animals by spotlight. Bush camp overnight.
DAY 4- A full days’ exploration,
taking in visits to lakes, wildlife watching, and learning
about indigenous plants with medicinal properties. Overnight
stay at a ranch to meet the local people.
Day 5- Early morning hike for sunrise and
wildlife viewing, return to campsite Fazenda Igrejinha.
After lunch, depart for Campo Grande, arriving at around
8 pm. Drop off at the hotel or local airport.
ACCOMMODATION: Established campsite, fazenda
ranch and Bush Camp.
FAZENDA IGREJINHA
A farm that offers rustic but comfortable accommodation,
dormitory sleeping arrangements, shared bath.
FAZENDA RANCH
Local family stay, sleeping accommodations in hammocks with
mosquito nets, very basic facilities.
BUSH CAMP
Predominantly bush camp with no conventional washing facilities
whatsoever. Sleeping accommodations in hammocks with mosquito
nets or tents.
